February 2025 Healthy News from Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka Chiropractic Identity, Exercise, Attire

A recent study by Leduc in January 2025 concluded that what we chiropractors wear influences our patients’ perception of us, including your Sitka chiropractor at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka. That’s good for us to know! Scrubs make us look more knowledgeable, trustworthy, competent, professional and comfortable. White coats and formal wear came in second place. For women chiropractors, the white coat was more affirmative for them than when worn by men. (1) Curiously, this attire issue doesn’t concern only chiropractors. A study conducted in Saudi Arabia on patient perceptions of surgeons based on their attire found that patients preferred scrubs and white coats. These preferences were accredited to perceived hygiene as well as the image of dedication and expertise transmitted by such attire. (2) Beyond their attire, chiropractors are working to refine their professional identity to better interact other healthcare colleagues who – according to other articles like the surgeon attire article – also work to refine their image and identity for their patients and collegial interactions. (3) One paper boldly determined that “although the chiropractic profession may debate internally about its professional identity, the chiropractic identity seems to have already been established by society, practice, legislation, and education as a profession of health care providers whose area of expertise is spine care.” (4) Beginning with spine care is good for Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka! We know through experience that spine pain relief leads to our patients’ trusting us with other health issues. Bring on your Sitka back pain and neck pain! We’ll put on our best scrubs, clothes and/or white coats! Together, let us work on getting you feeling better!
